Thanksgiving Trip

We took the opportunity of a few days off to do some traveling over Thanksgiving - gotta knock off those last must-see locations in CA. We had a relaxing Thanksgiving at home and had dinner with my parents - I got sick eating obscene amounts of my mom's stuffing, as usual.

Friday we took off for Hearst Castle. It was a beautiful place and a fun tour. Would you believe it's a safe place to be in an earthquake? Of course I asked the tour guide. There was a 6.1 centered just a few miles away a couple years ago and there wasn't any damage to the whole castle. Wonder if I could move into a wing?

Then Saturday we went to Paso Robles wine country. We had driven by on our way to Monterey once and thought it looked nice. Now, it's no Napa, but it was pretty scenic. The wineries were very pretty and the people were all nice. A couple of the wineries had resident dogs...love it. I have a pic of Ryan (a little intoxicated) hugging a basset hound - priceless. We came home with a good amount of wine and some pretty pics:

We went to an olive farm too - I'm a big olive oil fan. We tasted a few oils, tapenades and jams. I bought a lovely bottle of lemon olive oil, which I can't wait to use.

So add another great weekend trip to the list. This state really is beautiful. Too bad it's all on top of massive fault lines.
